I have one serious and important question: If I just do a straight download and install and I do it using the default method like the way most people would do, will it delete/erase any files or wipe out my computer ?

    please help

  • Don Bailey

Sir, were you ever able to get this to work?–and is so, please, please tell me how. I have a 2008 iMac running 10.8.4. I cannot dl the newest OS as my machine is too old, and can’t work with some of the software I want because my OS is too old. Mavericks is pretty much my only option and I cannot seem to get ANY method to work. Could you–or anyone seeing this please help? Apple was (predictably) no help at all. Thanks to any and all!

      Yes.. It’s working absolutely fine!!

My experience upgrading from Snow Leopard was that I could not get any of the later OS to work, until I first installed Lion 10.7.5. The machine would allow me to install Mavericks, and even Sierra, but it would not run. Eventually I was forced to completely wipe the harddrive, go to Global recovery, get Lion, and from there, go forward in time.

  • instructions were confusing, theres’s apparently no point in extracting the DMG from the APP package, Diskmaker does not recognize that DMG by itself and neither does PowerISO on windows. I had to rename the sierra DMG to it’s original label “InstallESD.dmg”and insert it back where it was inside the app, then Diskmaker finally worked. thanks anyways for the links.
